What is an Ignition interlock?

 

An ignition interlock is an electronic devicethat requires you to blow a breath sample into a hand held machine to ensure there is no alcohol in your system. If there is no alcohol in your breath sample, your car will start.

 

The machine will then ask for a random rolling retest within the first 15 minutes and then once every 30 minutes thereafter. The device itself is installed under the dashboard and works similar to a car alarm that prohibits the start of the car if alcohol is presented to the device.

Who Needs An Ignition Interlock?

• All DUI convictions
• All admin per SE refusal
• Any minor operating a motor vehicle w/Alcohol in their system.
• Anyone who has been notified by MVD to get anInterlock.

 

How long do I need the Ignition Interlock?

• All DUI convictions = 12 months Ignition Interlock Device Requirement
• Super Extreme .20 BAC or greater = 18 months Ignition Interlock Device Requirement
• Any minor operating a vehicle with alcohol in the body = 2 year suspension if judge permits, Ignition Interlock Device Requirement for the duration of restricted license.
